Okay, I know this is not going to reflect well on me, since this is considered one of the great American novels, but I cannot adequately tell you how much I hated this book. It tells the story of a family in Mississippi through various characters’ perspectives. The matriarch has died and her husband promised he would bury her with “her people” in Jefferson. So the whole family goes on this odyssey across the state with her dead body and lots of bad things happen to them along the way. The story could actually be kind of interesting, but Faulker’s style of writing is so incomprehensible as to make it pure torture to read. I have been assured by my colleagues here at DRCS that it is a good book but I’m afraid we will have to agree to disagree!
