Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children is about a young boy whose grandfather tells him wild tales of his childhood. He tells him about friends who are invisible, levitate, have superhuman strength, can create fire with their bare hands, etc…. He is fascinated by these stories, but as the boy gets older, he starts to realize that they are just that, stories. Or are they?????
This book is difficult to read for the first several chapters because you are introduced to 16 main characters and keeping them straight is a challenge! But once you get into it, the challenge becomes worth it. A great mystery with a surprise ending. Newberry award winner!
The Invention of Hugo Cabret is a beautiful story told in both words and pictures. You will enjoy this wonderful story about an orphan living in a Paris train station trying to unlock a mechanical mystery.
This book is the best selling young adult novel of all time. There is a reason for that. It is an achingly honest and brutal account of life on the wrong side of the tracks. Ponyboy, Sodapop, Darry, and the rest of the greasers will worm their way into your hearts despite their rough exterior. Interesting fact….S.E. Hinton is a woman, and she wrote The Outsiders while still in high school! She abbreviated her first name because she was afraid people wouldn’t want to buy this kind of book if they know that it was written by a female.
This book about the presidency and assassination of John F. Kennedy is fast-paced book and reads more like a novel than a biography. If you don’t know much about JFK, Lee Harvey Oswald, or Jack Ruby, this is a great way to learn. Very entertaining.
Treasure Island is about this young man named Jim Hawkins. He finds himself with a key that will lead to a fortune . He has found a map that will lead him to Treasure Island, but to get there, there will be villains, wild beasts, and deadly savages standing in the way of his gold. Do not read “Bad Kitty v. Uncle Murry.” It is a terrible book. It is the worst book I have ever read. If you start reading it you will be bored after 2 seconds.
